Southeast Virginia Street Rods Fundraiser Benefits the Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the Blind and Visually Impaired
Beach Eye Care donated a gift certificate valued at $1,000 for Laser Vision Correction to the 17th annual charity picnic sponsored by the Southeast Virginia Street Rods. With $3,150 in total donations, the Street Rods chose the Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the Blind and Visually Impaired as the 2009 recipient.
Noblemen Toy Drive & Food Drive for the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia
The Beach Eye Care team headed by Dr. Lipton, a member of the Noblemen of Virginia Beach, collected a box full of toys by hosting a Holiday Sweater Contest at the First Colonial location. To compete, staff had to donate 3 items of food or 1 toy. Donations were given to the Nobleman and were then taken to the Early Childhood Discovery program at the YMCA. Beach Eye Care also collected and donated over 40 lbs of non-perishable food to the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia during this event.

Advancements in Technology
Zeiss Cirrus hdOCT Machine
Imagine seeing your own eye anatomy in high definition and 3-D...well, it's now at Beach Eye Care. The hdOCT (Ocular Coherence Tomography) allows us to image key structures of your eye from front to back.
For our corneal vision correction patients, we can see and measure the thickness remaining in your corneal bed post-Lasik to guide you to a Lasik enhancement under the flap versus a surface PRK one.
For our ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) patients, we can better measure the space between the high nearsightedness correcting implant and your human lens to minimize touch that could lead to a more rapid development of a cataract (clouding of your human lens).
For patients with diabetes, macular degeneration or other macular conditions (like puckering or hole formation), and those preparing to undergo cataract surgery, a high definition scan of the 20/20 spot is invaluable in guiding treatment. The hdOCT provides a cross-section anatomical view that is easy for all to understand as well as to visualize the sweet spot of our vision (the macula).
In glaucoma, the optic nerve is imaged to detect damage that causes side vision loss on the visual field test. The hdOCT allows the earliest detection of this silent vision-threatening condition so laser or drop treatment can be initiated to lower the eye pressure and preserve sight.
The hdOCT test is painless and takes only minutes to perform without touching the eye. The anatomy of the eye in high definition is instrumental in our ability to save sight at Beach Eye Care.
